«After releasing several gorgeous and very intense guitar based drones as AO and later as on_14, Aogu Yoshida returns with a new moniker: Mel. 'So' is Mel's first effort and marks a shift in his aesthetic approach. Out with the drones, in with the lush pads and synth lines. Mel is all IDM, all intimacy, all luxury sounds.
Muffled beats and reverb keyboards go side to side with breaking waves and other field recordings, along with some trademark Aogu Yoshida soft drones. 'Autumn' is the best example of what Mel is and what Aogu has accomplished. 'Swee' is currently my favorite track.

«'Mel' is a new direction for netlabel artist called Aogu Yoshida. I've previously downloaded a lot of his On14 stuff, and have long been enjoying those electro-acoustic compositions. Now as Mel, Yoshida has begun to sculpt drones and tones in a new direction. This is an excellent album for introspective, contemplative listening. Subtle rhythms add punctuation to a delicate electronic masterpiece.
Test Tube, as many will be aware, is a prolific netlabel with over 150 free high-quality releases. (...) I agree with Pedro Leitao on the stand-out track recommendation - Swee is an excellent release that for me, just sums up a cracking album!»

«Estupendo trabajo de Mel para Test Tube. Se trata del artista japones Aogu Yoshida, quien ya cuenta con una extensa y variada carrera de estupendos lanzamientos de ambient drone en distintos netlabels bajo otros seudónimos: como AO en MiMi (mi032), también aquí en test tube( tube023). Como on_14 en Rain netlabel (rain021) y en el álbum "Forest" (tube058), en Complementary Distribution o en lanzamientos independientes... (Lista completa de trabajos de Aougu Yoshida ).
Con este nuevo sobrenombre, este artista natural de Tokushima, nos trae un Ambient Downtempo minimalista, espectacularmente sencillo, calmado, intimo y cálido. Con sonidos ligeros, pausados, lentos desarrollos, alguna "field recordings", un sonido de percusión muy logrado y una rítmica suave y delicada. Muy recomendable.»
