«As promised, we're back with another excellent work from Entia Non - aka James McDougall from Australia - called 'Lilt' (check out the previous one released last year). Like the previous one, expect to listen to lots of juicy field recordings from australian whereabouts artfully mixed with soothing ambient tones and drones of rare beauty, and also organic backgrounds to complete. For this release, James went to capture new sounds to some well known 'sand islands' located on the eastern coast of his enormous country, namely 'Stradbroke Island'.
'Oxide Pearl' and 'Littoral Glades' are my favorites and the ones that best capture Entia Non's essence of 'australian ambient/field recordings' work. Warm and dense backgrounds, moist and organic f.r. full with birds singing and water flowing and daily familiar voices and sounds. Lilt is the second release of James McDougall AKA Entia Non on Portuguese netlabel testtube. This is a project he finished almost a year ago, and it's rather interesting to hear what he was doing back then.
Compared to his newest material Lilt remains very close to the ambient music tradition of people like Brian Eno and some Geir Jenssen material, although James McDougall strongly sympathizes with elements of avant garde and electro acoustic music, which gives a special edge to his work.
Lilt also has a strong cinematographic character which is very obvious and explicit in some parts. I think of Lilt as a soundtrack of a movie where landscapes and scenarios are the main protagonists while the people only seem to have a background role.
The release is composed by 5 pieces, all of them very integrated and very well built. Back Then (piece number four) is a personal favorite. It's a very textured piece with small sounds quietly struggling on the back. There is a subtle pad all across the piece that wraps around all the grainy and implicit elements that play together through the piece.
As a very hot summer is approaching in the north of the globe, I advise to play Lilt and lay down in a comfy spot while whatever movie Lilt could be the soundtrack for, plays in your own imagination.»

«Impresionante el ultimo lanzamiento en test tube, web que como su propio nombre indica, funciona al modo de “tubo de ensayo” para nuevas formas de expresión musical.
Se trata del segundo trabajo de Entia non (James Mcdougall) en este mismo label (anterior: tube099).
Ambient de calidad que surge de combinar bellísimos tonos, calidos fondos, fragmentos acústicos, pianos… con elementos de grabaciones reales de sonidos de la naturaleza (agua, cantos de pájaros, etc.) obtenidos en “stradbroke island” al este de Australia, de donde es natural el artista. Todo magistralmente tratado, estructurado y ejecutado. Fusión perfecta de naturaleza y tecnología a través del sonido, muy recomendable.»
